Daniel has found a great loophole in the way McDonald's and other fast food companies account for inventory. They count the cups. So if you, as an environmentally aware consumer, bring in a paper cup to refill, the refill is free. Daniel has been bringing a Mickie D's cup in for refills so no problem. Well today I brought a Panera cup into McDonald's and it was free too. Yesterday the McD cup was free in Panera's. See they count the cups and not the liquid and there is nothing in the system to account for refilling cups that are brought in. Do the math. On this trip, say 21 days. Three cups each a day, That's 6 times 21 cups that don't go in the landfill. And a savings of over $100 -- which is a lot on a botanist's expense account. And let's be real, the paper coated styrofoam cups McDonald's uses are an environmental nightmare. They will not decay so may as well use them as much as we can.
Here's a nice vintage McD sign we saw.
